DASHBOARD DESIGN ESSENTIALS
LIVE SEMINAR

There are many reasons why enterprise dashboards fail to make an impact and become widely adopted. Stakeholders are often misaligned or they don't know what they really need and we can miss the mark with our dashboards by not realizing value and making business impact.

The challenge with business intelligence and analytics today is that much of that value is left on the table. Failure to leverage methodologies such as user interviews, persona design, stakeholder buy-in, wireframing and feedback greatly increase the risk of user disengagement and stakeholder frustration.

This practical and  intensive half-day seminar takes participants through a comprehensive journey of the tools and methodologies the world’s leading analytics consulting firms use to maximize adoption, reduce risk, and achieve business value through behavioral change. By the end of the seminar, participants will walk away with dashboard wireframes, specific to their own objectives, and a strategy for ensuring the adoption of their completed dashboard.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • UI/UX principles for dashboard design
  • Techniques for engaging with users and winning them over
  • Crafting personas, their goals, challenges and business questions
  • Optimal dashboard layouts based on personas
  • Dashboard storytelling and scenario mapping
  • Low-fidelity wireframing in PowerPoint
  • High-Fidelity wireframing in your virtual whiteboard of choice, such as Miro, Mural, Figma and Microsoft Whiteboard

MEET NICHOLAS KELLY, YOUR SEMINAR INSTRUCTOR

Nicholas (LinkedIn profile) is not your typical instructor, that might have great theory but lacks the real-world experience that grounds the material in reality. Nick has lived and breathed the reality of failed data projects. He has been a Big 4 consultant to the world’s largest organizations helping them to act on their data in a career that spans from Ireland to Singapore and the USA.

From enterprise-grade operations dashboards for global banks with 200,000+ employees to intense demand, highly actionable, metrics delivery for Formula 1 drivers, he has developed a winning process for ensuring companies get ROI on their data via insight and behavioral change.

He is the creator of the Enterprise Dashboard Process, invented the Dashboard Wireframe Kit and the award-winning boardgame approach to BI requirements intake, the Dashboard Requirements Kit.

Nick has worked for many years in the analytics field, both inside and outside of Deloitte. His work has been consistently underpinned by two core themes – making the insights you and your company can get from data accessible through well thought out and intuitive visual assets; and integrating those visual assets (such as dynamic dashboards) with existing platforms and processes to help business leaders take action on the insights.

Analytics is as much an art as it is a science and Nick has a unique ability to bridge the gap between data science, digital and the generation of measurable, tangible business value. And all with an energetic approach and sprinkle of Irish charm!

Not only was seminar very educational and insightful, but entertaining and personable with the past experiences shared. The seminar exceeded my expectations. I was expecting the seminar to focus solely on dashboard design, but so much more was focused on UX Requirements and I'm glad it was. The level of detail explaining the process and it's importance to delivering data analytics to end users and stakeholders will have a huge impact on adoption and engagement.

DASHBOARD WIREFRAME KIT
PowerPoint Edition

Creating dashboard wireframes should be simple and easily accessible to anyone. That's why we created the PowerPoint Edition of our famous Dashboard Wireframe Kit, that is currently only available to attendees of the live seminar.

During the training you will be leveraging this kit directly and, by the end of the two days, will have your own set of wireframes created for a real project you can directly apply to your day job.

THE RECIPE FOR BI & ANALYTICS SUCCESS

Most programs teach a specific skill like how to use a certain BI tool or technology or data storytelling, this creates ineffective professionals who don’t understand the whole. We are technology agnostic. Sure, we teach visualization best practices. We teach good design. We teach requirements gathering and how to launch a dashboard in your organization. We excel at all those.

However, to truly succeed with insight, you need to learn some new skills to build trust, manage expectations and exude competence. You need a new set of tools and mental model:

  1. Insight mindset – Vision, purpose, prioritize, problem solving, consultant identity
  2. UX principles – User journeys, scenario mapping, research, wireframing
  3. Iterative process – Frameworks, product cycle, workflows, tools, metrics
  4. Change management – Gaps, politics, history, change readiness, alignment
  5. Adoption ownership – Strategy, product focus, marketing, influence

I would just like to thank Nick for such an amazing course! I have been in the analytics field for almost 10 years and the content Nick provided was very helpful. I have pages of notes! What I loved most about this course was Nick’s emphasis on using people and process to create a narrative and drive adoption with your dashboards. So much useful and actionable information to take away from this! Thank you

WHAT DO PAST COURSE ATTENDEES SAY?

'Ridiculously effective’ is the phrase that comes to mind when I think about Nick’s Enterprise Dashboard Process. His program gave my team a scalable and repeatable process to deliver ACTIONABLE insight that truly adds value to the company. He has a crazy amount of experience, giving him a wealth of knowledge about what works and what doesn’t. We’re much more confident in the product we deliver thanks to Nick’s process.

Jesse Foley

Busuness intelligence analyst

Nick's training on building better dashboards has been instrumental in helping McKee Foods get on the road from good to great visualizations. The ingredient we were missing was that we needed to create a system to successfully create higher dashboard adoption rates. We now have a more engaged stakeholder group and more user relevant dashboards. I recommend anyone seeking to become the best visual data storyteller in the industry to try Nick's training. It will be money well spent!

The course was so great! I learned a lot and really appreciated applying the thinking and activities directly to my work. It was packed full of content and I know I will be able to use in my job right away. Thank you!

Kelly Booth

The dashboarding process that Nick has outlined and detailed in his training will prepare your organization to plan and execute a dashboard that adds tremendous value. I have seen failed dash boarding attempts at my company and Nick’s well planned approach aligns everyone to the same successful implementation. The training was the most comprehensive and complete dash boarding exercise I have seen in our industry.
